What Is the American FootGolf League (AFGL)?
Published May 1, 2026 · Updated July 18, 2026
If FootGolf has a "major league," this is it. The American FootGolf League (AFGL) is the national body that turns FootGolf from a fun round with friends into an organized competitive sport in the US.
What the AFGL actually does
- Affiliates and approves FootGolf courses that meet equipment and layout standards
- Publishes a player Code of Conduct that governs tournament behavior
- Runs a season-long tour of sanctioned events across affiliated clubs
- Applies the international rule set maintained by the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG)
Why course affiliation matters
A course doesn't need AFGL affiliation to offer casual FootGolf — plenty of public courses run their own FootGolf layout for recreational play. Affiliation matters if you want to compete: only AFGL-affiliated courses can host sanctioned tour stops, and only rounds played under those rules count toward rankings and qualification for higher-level events.
How to get involved competitively
- Play casually first to build consistency and confidence in your kicking technique
- Find your nearest AFGL-affiliated course and ask about local leagues or one-off tournaments
- Enter an amateur-level event before jumping into the full tour
- Track your scores to see how you'd stack up under tournament pressure
