FootGolf Equipment & Dress Code
FootGolf is one of the cheapest outdoor sports to gear up for: most of what you need, you probably already own. Here's exactly what to wear and bring.
The equipment you actually need
- An approved FootGolf ball: a standard size 5 ball designed or approved for FootGolf play. Many courses sell or rent them if you don't bring your own. Exact size, weight, and hole specs are in our ball and hole size guide.
- Turf or indoor soccer shoes: enough grip for a controlled strike without damaging the greens. See our full shoe-buying guide if you need to pick a pair.
- A towel: useful for wiping down a wet ball and your hands between holes, especially on all-day course schedules.
- Water and sunscreen: an 18-hole round is a couple of hours outdoors with a fair amount of walking.

Standard FootGolf dress code
Because FootGolf shares the course with traditional golf, most clubs apply the same (or a close variation of the same) dress code:
- Collared shirt (a plain t-shirt is often fine at more casual courses, so check ahead)
- Golf shorts, pants, or a golf skirt
- Knee-high socks at some stricter clubs
- Turf shoes or indoor soccer shoes
What most courses won't allow
- Soccer cleats or any metal-spiked footwear
- Swimwear or athletic cutoff shorts
- Standard soccer uniforms/jerseys at stricter, private-style clubs
Dress codes vary meaningfully by course: a municipal course running a casual FootGolf layout will typically be far more relaxed than a private club hosting AFGL-sanctioned events. When in doubt, call ahead or check the course's FootGolf page before you go.
